ACCIPITER RADAR TECHNOLOGIES IS AWARDED FURTHER CONTRACT UNDER FAA PROGRAM TO DELIVER AND INSTALL AVIAN RADAR NETWORKS TO MAJOR US AIRPORTS
In the summer of 2006 Accipiter Radar Technologies Inc (ARTI) was selected under a program run by the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Center of Excellence for Airport Technology (CEAT) to deliver and install two Accipiter® radars at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Following a very successful first year of evaluation, this program has been expanded and ARTI has been awarded a contract for the supply of additional Avian Radar Systems.
The Accipiter® Netmaster system will be installed in some of the USA’s busiest airports with known bird strike problems, including New York’s JFK and Chicago O’Hare International which itself experienced a widely publicized bird strike in March 2007.
Air strikes cost in excess of one billion dollars annually in damage to aircraft and interruptions of air operations worldwide. More importantly, every air strike also has the potential of loss of life. ARTI is able to offer a high-performance Avian Radar solution that addresses this urgent aviation safety issue of bird aircraft strike hazard (BASH).
Prior to the introduction of affordable avian radars, airport wildlife control staff lacked sufficient awareness of bird movements to maximize the safety objective of keeping birds and planes separated. Accipiter® Avian Radars can reliably track individual birds or flocks, present informative displays and provide automated alerts to its users. It is also provides continuous 24/7 recording of bird movement data for use in risk analysis and safety planning. Radar information can be routed over standard networks to users anywhere including to mobile vehicles equipped with wireless network access.
These new installations follow recent extensive testing of Accipiter® at the CEAT in Illinois, and at the FAA Training and Test facility in Oklahoma City.
Located in the heart of Niagara, Ontario, Accipiter Radar Technologies is a subsidiary of Sicom Systems Ltd which was established to develop its Accipiter® family of radar systems and networks for applications which demand high performance. ARTI’s elite team of radar experts and engineers have more than 150 years of combined experience developing advanced military radar systems for the industry’s most demanding customers. The team has developed the most advanced tracking and surveillance systems on the market using PC based processing featuring military gold standard tracking methods for small, manoeuvering targets.
Accipiter® technology offers such a dramatically improved price/performance for tracking surveillance radar that is has opened up several new markets for which high performance radar was previously unaffordable.
