PRESS RELEASE

Great Progress in Bird Radar since US Airways Flight 1549

Niagara, ONTARIO - Great strides towards wide-scale integration of bird radars to help mitigate bird strikes are being made as the aviation community marks the US Airways Flight 1549 ditching in the Hudson River one year ago.

To provide information on this progress, Accipiter Radar announces the publication of a resource bulletin entitled "On the Radar" available at www.accipiterradar.com/bulletinboard.html.

The first issue focuses on significant advances made by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Department of Defense (DoD) and other stakeholders this past year to accelerate the integration of avian radars into civil and military airport operations in North America.

Recognizing the increasing bird hazards around airports and recent advances in commercially available avian radar systems, both the FAA and the DoD launched the largest assessment programs of their kind in mid-2006 and early 2007, respectively. Notwithstanding the significant differences in civil and military airport operations necessitating deployments at both types of airports, these agencies have been collaborating extensively to leverage resources and accelerate outcomes.

As a result, extensive validation efforts to measure radar system performance and confirm the validity of target information have been substantially completed, paving the way for an emphasis on operations in remaining integration efforts. Initial guidance to airports from the FAA on how to acquire and integrate these radar tools into existing operations is expected in the not too distant future.
