Radar-activated Deterrent Application
Birds habituate to constant noises and other disturbances. Their continued presence on airfields and in industrial areas reinforces that conclusion. Unfortunately, they also habituate to deterrents and other forms of harassment designed to keep them away from dangerous situations. Because habituation depends on repeated exposure, the rate of habituation can be slowed by judicious use of deterrents. Rather than having auditory and visual deterrents operating continuously or at regular intervals, they should be activated only when the birds are attempting to enter a dangerous situation.
The Accipiter® Avian Radar system provides the interface capability to remotely activate individual or sets of deterrents. This activation can be based on presence/absence information or complex logic. Logic conditions can be based on any combination of target number, target size, direction of movement, speed, duration of the track, and other parameters. Multiple defensive zones can be established, each with its own criteria and set(s) of deterrents. Because we provide you with such detailed control, birds can be steered away from hazards as they approach instead of after they have entered the defended area.
One of the biggest problems, legally and scientifically, is documenting the response of birds to specific deterrents. The efficacy of the deployed deterrents must be recorded in an unbiased manner to be valid. Because Accipiter® Avian Radar system’s records contain all detection and track data based on government (GPS) satellites and document when a deterrent is triggered, they have evidentiary value in a regulatory or legal investigation.
