Border Security Application
Keeping citizens safe and secure through informed detection, interdiction and enforcement is the challenge facing today’s border authorities.
It is well understood that as law enforcement increases at ports of entry, illegal cross-border activity moves away from those fixed points in an effort to avoid detection. Accipiter Radar helps with information networks that act as force-multipliers by providing wide-area situational awareness of the movements of people, vehicles, vessels or aircraft in the areas between the official ports of entry. Real-time radar displays can be located both in operations centres and in mobile units to provide enforcement officers with a tactical advantage during interdiction operations, contributing to both effectiveness and officer safety.
Accipiter's Total Coverage™ Technology provides complete cylindrical coverage of the entire aerosphere with user programmable scan patterns to support surface and air surveillance. Accipiter’s M3™ multi-radar, multi-mission, multi-user information system stores every target’s movement 24/7 so that investigators can study previous incidents and intelligence analysts can go back in time to extract meaningful patterns of movement. Past activity can also be analyzed for operations planning to determine the most effective manner to deploy limited assets and personnel.
The sheer magnitude of the border enforcement task places challenging demands on border surveillance solutions. For example, the United States and Canada share thousands of kilometers of common border including almost 4,000 km of marine border in the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes Region. The U.S. has 12,000 km of international border and nearly 20,000 km of coastline. Accipiter’s M3™ information systems connect and integrate large numbers of unattended radars into a wide-area surveillance network that can deliver target information to a central operations centre, or anywhere else the information is needed.
Accipiter has worked closely with border enforcement professionals in designing the solutions they need to overcome the challenges of border security. Client specific, pre-programmed, automated analytical real-time alerts free users from constantly watching a radar screen. Accipiter® Security Radars include sophisticated target analytics capable of automatically identifying user-defined suspicious behavior patterns. This aids human operators by exposing questionable boating activity such as a cross-border rendezvous, hidden among the many recreational boaters that fill the lake. Full sensor integration capacity allows for day/night cameras to be cued onto the target by the Accipiter system to permit immediate threat identification and generate possible evidence.
