Accipiter® Avian Radar information networks provide an effective and efficient method of data collection for Environmental and Natural Resource Managers. Environmental Assessments, protection and Natural Resource Management have been based on data collected by biologists using visual techniques. This data is mostly limited to daytime observations when fog, smoke, or blowing dust are not present.

The Accipiter® Avian Radar product family includes a number of mature, standard radar systems engineered and configured to meet typical requirements associated with environmental protection applications. Accipiter's Total Coverage™ Technology provides complete cylindrical coverage of the entire aerosphere with a beam that scans 0-360° in azimuth and 0-90° in elevation with user programmable scan patterns. Each system includes our patented M3™ multi-radar, multi-mission, multi-user target information system featuring an open sensor and network architecture for flexibility and scalability, protecting your investment for future growth and changing requirements.  A wide range of platform, transceiver, antenna and information system options allow our engineers to customize solutions to meet your particular mission and user requirements.

With Accipiter’s® Avian Radar information networks flying animals can be tracked day and night, even when visibility is obscured. Thus, avian radars are ideally suited for collecting data needed to identify the diurnal/nocturnal and seasonal behavioral patterns of birds and bats and the locations they frequent. The time/date-stamped data are geo-referenced and saved to the built-in M3™ information system for later analysis. Because environmental protection data collection is often conducted at remote locations, optional internal generators can be used to power these radar systems.

Environmental protection can involve monitoring small, nocturnal flying animals whose altitude is important to know. Accipiter’s sophisticated clutter suppression capabilities enables the radar to track birds and bats over areas of clutter that would frustrate the effectiveness of conventional radar systems. The Accipiter® Avian Radar system provides three-dimensional information on every target with each antenna scan.

Wildlife managers can use avian radar to monitor the movements and activities of waterfowl as well as non-game species to determine habitat use and response to human activities. Accipiter® Avian Radar information networks can also help protect wildlife from toxic or polluted sites through the use of radar-controlled deterrents. No other radar system has used complex logic to control as diverse a selection of deterrent types for wildlife protection.  When a large or discontinuous area is being monitored, Accipiter’s  M3™ system unites the information from multiple radar units into a single control network and common operational picture.
